Scouting Report: Velus Jones – 2016 Wide Receiver

I’m not of the opinion that recruiting rankings don’t mean anything, but I’m also not blind to the fact that they are nowhere near perfect, especially early in the process.

Velus Jones may be a little known receiver out Saraland, Alabama right now, but he’s about to get a lot more attention now that he has committed to USC. The Trojans picked up an out of state steal that is more than likely going to shooting up rankings over the next year.

Scouting Report: Darian Owens – 2016 Athlete

USC had tremendous previous week in recruiting, but they still don’t have the top ranked class in the Pac-12 as of right now. That’s because UCLA had another good week with a commitment from Clovis West (Fresno, California) athlete Darian Owens.

Owens could end up being another weapon for Josh Rosen to get the ball to for the Bruins, but he easily could end up covering receivers on the other side of the ball as well.

Scouting Report: Tren’Davian Dickson – 2016 Wide Receiver

I know there is a lot of talent from Texas every year, but wow, there is a lot of talent in Texas this year. There’s enough to go around that Baylor, TCU, A&M, and Texas could all have monster classes while losing some prospects they’d like to sign to each other on signing day.

Navasota wide receiver Tren’Davian Dickson was committed to Baylor before opening up his recruitment and every school in Texas and beyond had to be happy that they could have another shot to land him. He’s a playmaker that is emerging as one of the top wide receiver recruits in the nation.

Scouting Report: Ahmir Mitchell – 2016 Wide Receiver

With schools playing quicker and quicker and emphasizing volume in terms of plays in a game, the short pass has never been more prevalent than it is today. That means that players who can make plays after the catch are also more valuable than ever.

That’s why Ahmir Mitchell is such a highly recruited player and considered one of the top receivers in the nation. He can do a lot of damage whenever he touches the football and schools like Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame all hope he is doing that damage for their program in the next few years.

Scouting Report: Eli Stove – 2016 Wide Receiver

Eli Stove has been tearing up the camp circuit this spring and continually performs well versus some of the top players in the state of Florida. That, combined with his film, has people buzzing about what he can do at the college level.

Whether he stays in SEC country or heads up to Michigan or Ohio State in the Big Ten, he has the chance to be a difference maker.

Scouting Report: Dillon Mitchell – 2016 Wide Receiver

Oregon landed a big time player out of SEC country in their last recruiting class when Kirk Merritt out of Louisiana signed with them and they hope to add another one in Dillon Mitchell, a wide receiver out of Memphis, Tennessee.

Mitchell has been on the board as an Oregon commit since November, but that hasn’t stopped programs like Alabama and Notre Dame from pursuing him. If he sticks, he has the tools to be another great skill player for the Ducks.

Scouting Report: Damian Alloway – 2016 Athlete

Everyone wants the ideal in terms of body type for football players, but there are always exceptions that don’t fit the mold. Damian Alloway fits into that category.

His dynamic athleticism helps him shine even though he doesn’t have ideal size. The Summit High athlete is one of the top slot receiver prospects in the nation in the 2016 recruiting cycle.

Scouting Report: Donnie Corley – 2016 Wide Receiver

It’s a very good year for talent in the state of Michigan and Detroit Martin Luther King’s Donnie Corley may be the best player in the state in 2016.

The athletically gifted wide receiver has all of the traditional Midwest powers after him and can develop into a difference maker wherever he chooses to go to school.

Scouting Report: Theo Howard – 2016 Wide Receiver

I think most people who follow recruiting got to know Theo Howard because of the guy throwing passes to him. I know I learned more about him from watching Malik Henry sling the ball to Howard last season at Westlake High last season. He kept standing out as Henry’s go-to guy and I’ve been fan of Howard’s ever since. (Henry has since transferred to IMG Academy in Florida)

There are other more impressive athletes, but Howard does so many things well at the wide receiver position and that’s why Oregon fans should be thrilled that he committed to play for the Ducks.
