Scouting Report: Calvin Ashley – 2017 Offensive Tackle

Sometimes it’s just not fair. It’s not fair that some kids are built like offensive tackle Calvin Ashley while others have to scrape for every extra inch to measure up to compete at the highest levels of football.

If there is a scouting dictionary locked away somewhere in a football library, the Auburn commitment’s picture is what would be next to the definition of an offensive tackle. This kid could walk into the NFL combine next week and not look out of place with the the guys who are about to start making a living playing the game. He has some way to go to get to be one of those guys to be ready for a jump to the league, but his genetic gifts should help him get there in a few years.

Scouting Report: Jamyest Williams – 2017 Cornerback

Sometimes it’s not about the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.

All I know is that Jamyest Williams has a lot of dog in him as a football player. This kid can ball against anyone at any size. It’s not just that he is a great athlete that has the top schools in the country after him. It’s the compete level that makes him one of the top recruits in the nation that could excel on either side of the football at the next level.

Scouting Report: Michael Divinity – 2016 Linebacker

There is always going to be a premium on players that can rush the passer and that is the greatest strength for one of the top outside linebacker recruits in the nation, Michael Divinity.

His 40 time might not be blazing, but his film says SEC speed to me and he is a coveted prospect by several of the top programs in the top conference in college football.

Scouting Report: Antonneous Clayton – 2016 Edge Player

It’s amazing that so many of the talented edge rusher prospects that are great athletes are also slow reacting off the football. They are fast runners, but don’t react like they should when the ball is snap.

Antonneous Clayton is one of the exceptions. He’s a great athlete for the position and gets off the football like gangbusters. He has offers from some of the top schools in the nation and could end up being the best pass rusher to emerge from the 2016 recruiting class.

Scouting Report: Byron Murphy – 2016 Cornerback

Arizona and Arizona State both appear to be on the rise in college football, but so far that rise on the field has not translated to them keeping all of the top in-state targets home. This year they are going to be in tough to land another great player from Scottsdale, Arizona as Saguaro cornerback Byron Murphy does not appear to have either near the top of his list.

I’m sure they will be working hard to somehow change that though, because Murphy is one of the top cornerbacks out west and may end up being rated as one of the top cornerbacks in the nation before the recruiting process is completed for the class of 2016.

Scouting Report: Oluwole Betiku – 2016 Defensive End

Players who just start playing football shouldn’t be this good this fast, but Oluwole Betiku is the exception to the rule. He is a physically gifted athlete that is built to be a defensive lineman.

He may already be the top prospect on the west coast and it wouldn’t shock me to see him ultimately end up right up near the top as a top ten player in the nation if he continues to improve at this incredible pace.

Scouting Report: Jaquan Yulee – 2016 Linebacker

Jaquan Yulee isn’t going to be a fit in every defense. There is a trend of having uber athletic, but less physical, inside linebackers in college football and it all is in response to the speed of opposing offenses.

There is still room in the game for players like Yulee though. He has the tools to be an intimidator in the middle of a defense and will be a great fit with the right program.

Scouting Report: Nigel Knott – 2016 Cornerback

Maybe my favorite cornerback that I ever watched play was former Ohio State cornerback Antoine Winfield. He was a pretty good cover guy, but there wasn’t anyone who tackled like him at the position. It was like the Buckeyes had another linebacker out on the field.

I saw a little bit of Winfield when I watched Nigel Knott tackle. He’s undersized just like Winfield, but hits harder than some of the top outside linebackers in this recruiting class. The Germantown High (Mississippi) cornerback has a lot of other raw tools to go with that aggressive tackling and that’s why he is considered on the top cornerbacks in the nation.

Scouting Report: Khalil Ladler – 2016 Cornerback

They say iron sharpens iron and I don’t disagree with them. That’s why I have no problem with players heading to IMG Academy to play football from all parts of the country.

Khalil Ladler transferred there from his home in Georgia and is going to get to compete with and against so many other players who will be moving on to the next level, just like him. Where he is at right now is a player is not where he is going to be after being there as a senior and coaches from schools like LSU, Florida State, Georgia, and Tennessee are excited about the kind of cornerback they will be getting if they land Ladler.
