Scouting Report: Haskell Garrett – 2017 Defensive Tackle

It’s no fluke that Bishop Gorman has emerged as possibly the top high school football program in America over the last couple of seasons. It’s a program with a history of producing talent, but now that talent is even greater than before with studs coming from California and Hawaii to play for the G.

Haskell Garrett is one of those prospects who came from Hawaii and moved to Las Vegas to attend Gorman. It’s been a beneficial move for him as he is already a top prospect and has been able to show he has a bright future as an interior defensive lineman against the top competition Gorman plays every year.

Scouting Report: Antjuan Simmons – 2017 Linebacker

Sometimes you watch a prospects tape and a few plays in, you feel like you’ve seen enough.

That can be a good or bad thing, but with Antjuan Simmons it’s a very good thing. It’s easy to see why so many programs have already offered him and why he is being pursued by college football coaches from around the country. He has wow physical traits that show out in his play on the field and it’s going to be exciting to watch his development during his senior year and beyond.

Scouting Report: Terrance Davis – 2016 Guard

Bigger guys beat up smaller guys. It’s not an ancient Chinese proverb, but it’s made sense since the dawn of time. So if you’re looking for a reason why Terrance Davis is a coveted offensive line recruit, look no further than how big he is right now.

He has the size to be a bully in the run game and schools like Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, and Michigan would love for him to be their bully the next four years or so.

Scouting Report: Dymond Lee – 2016 Wide Receiver

Position changes for recruits are not that uncommon. Often a player is brought in at one position and it doesn’t take much time before they are switched to another.

Dymond Lee is seen as a wide receiver by most recruiting sites and most schools. UCLA took his commitment as a quarterback, so a quarterback he shall be. For how long that is, I don’t really know. I’m going to assume it’s not long, though, because I’m not sure Lee would be able to get on the field being behind Josh Rosen at quarterback. I see him eventually being moved to wide receiver and I’m going to concentrate on that area of his game for the purpose of this post.

Scouting Report: Justin Madubuike – 2016 Defensive End

Justin Madubuike is listed as a defensive end just about everywhere. And he probably would be one at the next level if he were playing at a college this fall.

He’s not, though. He’s only going to be a senior in high school this season and even if he kicks outside to play this season (he lined up inside as a junior), I think he is likely to grow into an interior player and a very good one at that.

Scouting Report: Camilo Eifler – 2016 Linebacker

Versatility is the most valuable trait to have as a defender these days because the offenses that college football defensive coordinators have to prepare for every week can be so multiple. One week it’s the triple option. The week after it’s the Air Raid.

That’s why a player like Camilo Eifler is a prospect that has the attention of so many schools. He can drop and cover a tight end on one play and rush off the edge the very next. He can do so many things well and is one of the top outside linebacker prospects in the nation this cycle.

Scouting Report: Lamar Jackson – 2016 Safety

Just one look at Lamar Jackson and it’s easy to see why so many programs are excited about his potential at the next level. He already looks the part of a college football player.

He also flashes traits that make him look like he should already be playing in college as well. He just needs to add the consistency to make him an elite player for right now and beyond.

Scouting Report: Eric Cuffee – 2016 Cornerback

One thing I always have at the top of my mind is that the player that a recruit is now is not the player that he is going to be later. I think that sometimes that gets lost when it comes to evaluating certain prospects.

I can see faults in Waco High cornerback Eric Cuffee‘s game, but I also think those faults are correctable. He also does some things really well and it’s why he is such a highly coveted recruit with offers from in-state schools like Texas and Texas A&M and national programs like Notre Dame and Alabama.

Scouting Report: Byron Murphy – 2016 Cornerback

Arizona and Arizona State both appear to be on the rise in college football, but so far that rise on the field has not translated to them keeping all of the top in-state targets home. This year they are going to be in tough to land another great player from Scottsdale, Arizona as Saguaro cornerback Byron Murphy does not appear to have either near the top of his list.

I’m sure they will be working hard to somehow change that though, because Murphy is one of the top cornerbacks out west and may end up being rated as one of the top cornerbacks in the nation before the recruiting process is completed for the class of 2016.

Scouting Report: Oluwole Betiku – 2016 Defensive End

Players who just start playing football shouldn’t be this good this fast, but Oluwole Betiku is the exception to the rule. He is a physically gifted athlete that is built to be a defensive lineman.

He may already be the top prospect on the west coast and it wouldn’t shock me to see him ultimately end up right up near the top as a top ten player in the nation if he continues to improve at this incredible pace.
